Evernew Multi-Tap ESP Transformers are specially designed to provide reliable and adjustable power for Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) systems used in oilfield production.
Because ESP motors operate at different well depths, cable lengths and operating conditions, the required motor voltage can vary significantly. Our multi-tap transformer provides a wide adjustable output voltage range, helping compensate for voltage drop along long downhole power cables and supplying the appropriate voltage to the ESP system.
Available from 100 kVA to 1000 kVA, with primary voltage options from 6 kV to 35 kV, 50/60 Hz operation and customized multi-tap voltage configurations, these transformers are suitable for both onshore and offshore oilfield applications.
Typical Specifications: 100–1000 kVA | 6–35 kV | 3 Phase | 50/60 Hz | 7–50 Tap Positions | ONAN | Indoor/Outdoor
What Is a Multi-Tap ESP Transformer?
A Multi-Tap ESP Transformer, also known as an Electric Submersible Pump Transformer, is a special-purpose transformer designed to supply power to ESP systems used in oil and gas wells.
Unlike conventional distribution transformers with a fixed voltage ratio, ESP transformers require multiple voltage taps because the electrical characteristics of each well can be different.
Factors such as:
- ESP motor rated voltage
- Well depth
- Downhole cable length
- Cable voltage drop
- Motor operating load
- Variable frequency drive configuration
- Oilfield power supply voltage
can all affect the voltage required by the ESP motor.
For this reason, Evernew ESP transformers can be designed with multiple selectable voltage positions, allowing the output voltage to be adjusted according to actual field operating conditions.
Key Features of Evernew Multi-Tap ESP Transformers
Wide Multi-Tap Voltage Regulation
Standard configurations can be designed with 7 voltage positions, typically using voltage adjustment steps such as:
±3 × 50 V
±3 × 75 V
±3 × 100 V
±3 × 150 V
For oilfield projects requiring a wider voltage adjustment range, customized designs with 30 or even 50 tap positions are available.
This provides greater flexibility for matching different ESP motors, cable lengths and well operating conditions.
Designed Specifically for ESP Systems
The transformer is engineered specifically for Electric Submersible Pump power supply systems, rather than being a conventional distribution transformer adapted for oilfield use.
Voltage ratios, tap arrangements, insulation systems, terminal configurations and auxiliary power outputs can all be customized according to the ESP system.
Multiple Primary Voltage Options
Evernew ESP transformers can be designed for common oilfield distribution voltages including:
6 kV / 10 kV / 11 kV / 20 kV / 33 kV / 35 kV
Other primary voltages can also be manufactured according to project requirements.
50 Hz and 60 Hz Operation
Båda 50 Hz and 60 Hz ESP transformer designs are available, making the transformers suitable for oilfield projects across the Middle East, North America, Latin America, Africa, Central Asia and other regions.
Outdoor Oilfield Operation
Den oljesänkt transformator design provides reliable continuous operation under demanding oilfield environments.
Outdoor enclosures, anti-corrosion treatment, high-temperature designs and customized accessories can be provided according to the installation environment.

Why Do ESP Systems Need Multi-Tap Transformers?
Electric submersible pumps are often installed hundreds or thousands of meters below the surface.
Electrical power must travel from the surface electrical system through long ESP cables before reaching the downhole motor. These cables create voltage drop, while different ESP motors may also have different rated operating voltages.
A conventional fixed-ratio transformer therefore cannot always provide the optimum voltage.
A multi-tap ESP transformer allows operators to select the appropriate transformer voltage according to:
Utility Voltage → ESP Transformer → VFD / Switchboard → ESP Cable → Downhole ESP Motor
By selecting different transformer taps, the surface power system can compensate for different operating conditions and provide a more appropriate voltage to the ESP equipment.
Oilfield ESP Transformer Applications
Evernew Multi-Tap ESP Transformers are designed for electrical power systems associated with:
- Onshore oil wells
- Electric submersible pumps
- Artificial lift systems
- Oilfield production facilities
- Oil and gas gathering stations
- VFD-powered ESP systems
- Deep-well pumping systems
- Remote oilfield electrical systems
The transformers can operate as part of a complete ESP electrical power system together with switchgear, VFDs, control equipment and downhole motors.
Full-Sealed Multi-Tap ESP Transformer
For oilfield projects requiring reduced maintenance and improved environmental protection, Evernew can provide full-sealed multi-tap ESP transformers.
The sealed transformer tank minimizes contact between transformer oil and the external atmosphere, helping reduce moisture ingress and oil oxidation.
This configuration is particularly suitable for remote oilfield installations where maintenance accessibility may be limited.
Available options include customized:
Capacity • Input Voltage • Output Voltage • Tap Range • Number of Taps • Auxiliary Voltage • Terminal Arrangement • Protection Accessories
Customized Voltage and Tap Configuration
ESP transformer selection should be based on the actual electrical characteristics of the pumping system rather than capacity alone.
Evernew can customize the transformer according to the customer’s:
Input voltage → required ESP output voltage → motor voltage → cable voltage drop → VFD configuration → well operating conditions
For projects involving multiple wells, different tap configurations can also be developed to allow one transformer design to accommodate a wider range of ESP operating requirements.
This is particularly useful for oilfield operators that use different motor ratings or operate wells at different depths.
